Our Approach

How we work together – Collective Impact

The Collective Impact approach brings the community together. Shared efforts working on a common agenda.

The collective impact approach is a structured collaboration model designed to address complex social problems by bringing together organisations from different sectors to work towards a common agenda. It emphasises a coordinated, cross-sector approach, unlike traditional collaborations, and relies on five key conditions to be successful: a common agenda, shared measurement, mutually reinforcing activities, continuous communication, and backbone support.

Key Elements of Collective Impact

Common Agenda: All participating organisations agree on a shared understanding of the problem and a common vision for its solution.

Shared Measurement: Agreed-upon metrics and data collection methods are used to track progress and measure the impact of the initiative.

Mutually Reinforcing Activities: Organisations engage in distinct activities that are coordinated and complementary, creating a synergistic effect.

Continuous Communication: Open and consistent communication channels are maintained to build trust, align efforts, and share information.

Backbone Support: A dedicated team or organisation provides the infrastructure and coordination necessary to manage the initiative, facilitate communication, and track progress.

Benefits of Collective Impact

Increased effectiveness: By coordinating efforts and leveraging the strengths of various organizations, collective impact can lead to more significant and sustainable change than individual organizations working in isolation.

Improved resource allocation: A shared understanding of the problem and coordinated activities can minimize duplication of effort and maximize the impact of resources.

Enhanced community engagement: Collective impact initiatives often involve community members in the design and implementation of solutions, fostering ownership and participation.

Long-term systems change: The focus on addressing the root causes of social problems and building collaborative infrastructure can lead to lasting and transformative change.

In essence, collective impact is a strategic framework that moves beyond isolated interventions to create a collaborative and coordinated approach to tackling complex social issues.

Stronger Places Stronger People, SPSP, Capricornia

OUR VISION is opportunity, equity, and quality of life for everyone in our community.

Capricornia SPSP is a collective group of voices from the community, government, service providers, and businesses, working together to create a thriving future for our community. We will achieve this by listening to the voices of our community and ensuring all voices are heard. We map our own path to change that builds on our community’s strengths and acknowledges the needs of our diverse community. We use data and stories to understand our priority areas, work collectively on agreed actions, and measure our progress to journey together to sustainable community wellbeing.  We share the same goal, and through community-led action and genuine collaboration,  we can create a brighter, positive, and thriving future for our region.

Our key values include dignity, fairness, respect, equity, equality, inclusivity, and independence. Values are demonstrated in meetings and in all interactions by:

  • Undertaking open and honest discussion and listening for deep understanding
  • Ensuring that transparency and trust underpin the work
  • Upholding confidentiality and not talking for others
  • Valuing community voice, individual stories, opinions, and lived experiences.

Our principles are underpinned by human rights, recognising the inherent value of every person and supporting individual freedom to make life choices, realise personal potential, and live free from fear, harassment, or discrimination.
